U.S. News and World Report Recognizes
University 101 as a
“Program to Look For"
For the sixth consecutive year, the University of South Carolina was cited by U.S. News and World Report for its outstanding programs for first-year students. USC was among 40 other schools lauded in the section, “Programs To Look For,” for first-year programs that lead to student success.
“It’s tremendously gratifying and exciting to be highlighted again by U.S. News and World Report as one of the leading higher education first-year programs promoting student success,” said Dan Berman, former Director of University 101. “The University 101 Program currently is setting enrollment records with approximately 3000 students enrolled in 160 classes. The most important item in keeping a program fresh and outstanding is always to be open, innovative, and responsive to change. Some major initiatives include our involvement with the Capstone Scholars Program; The Magellan Scholars Program; the Creating Academic Responsibility Initiative; multiple types of learning communities and residential living groupings; bringing together students with common interests in areas such as sustainability, pre-med and pre-law; and expansion of the First-Year Reading Experience to include the entire freshman class.”
This is the sixth year U.S. News and World Report has published a list of schools with outstanding examples of academic programs that lead to student success. USC has also been cited twice for their senior capstone experiences in University 401.
