If you are a degree seeking or non-degree student please submit all transcripts at least 30 days prior to the semester you plan to enroll in classes. Submit official transcripts from ALL previous colleges and universities attended in a sealed envelope to the Office of Admissions.
The UHCL Office of Admissions
Box 13
2700 Bay Area Blvd.
Houston, TX 77058-1098
You may register for and take up to one semester of coursework without official transcripts by completing and submitting the application form and the application fee. However, you will not be able to take additional coursework until your transcripts have been submitted. For registration purposes, the application and application fee are essential. Official transcripts and test scores must be received prior to registration for any future semester. Mail transcripts directly to the Office of Admissions.
Submit Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller's Analogies Test (MAT) scores to the Office of Admissions. Students who have a 3.0 average in their last 60 hours do not need to make any particular score on the GRE or MAT. Students with a GPA of less than 3.0 and greater than 2.5 in their last 60 hours must score 900 combined or greater on the quantitative and verbal portions of the GRE and a 3.5 or greater on the analytical writing portion of the GRE. A score of 36 or greater is needed on the MAT. Students who already hold a master's degree or higher are not required to submit GRE or MAT scores.
GRE and MAT test scores are only valid for five years. To register for the GRE, you must obtain a GRE registration booklet and apply using forms contained in the booklet. GRE registration booklets may be obtained at most local area universities or colleges. To obtain information and register for the MAT offered at UHCL, call UHCL Career and Counseling Services at 281.283.2600. MAT registration booklets may also be obtained at most local area universities or colleges. For more information about the GRE and MAT test please go to the Career and Counseling Services.
The time and location of the exams will be given when you call. Students must submit test scores to the Office of Admissions (address above) before they can register for a second semester as a graduate degree-seeking student.
Standard admission requirements for entry into the graduate programs at UHCL apply to all participants in any of the INST Distance Education programs. All students interested in the INST program can either apply on-line or go to the UHCL campus and submit the application form and fee directly to the Office of Admissions. For more detailed information about the application, registration and enrollment process as well as financial aid, tuition, fees, and other resources, please refer to Future Students.

At the same time you apply for admissions to UHCL you will indicate that you wish to apply to the INST program. After the UHCL Office of Admissions processes your admission to the University, they forward your request for admissions to the Instructional Technology program (INST) of the School of Education (SoE). The SoE advisors can answer general questions about the INST curriculum and can answer questions about the status of your admissions application prior to being admitted into the INST program. For additional information call a SoE academic advisor at 281.283.3615.
You will receive notification in the mail from the Office of Admissions verifying your admission status after all supporting documents; admission application, fees, and transcripts are received. You will also receive information for the procedures in how to register and enroll in classes prior to registration. At this step of your admission procedure you have not officially been admitted into the SoE INST Graduate Program, however you may still enroll in classes. See Section 1.5.1 for INST course sequencing.
