The Educational Management Program
The goal of the educational management program is to prepare candidates to be effective educational leaders. This student-centered program provides a blend of academic and fieldwork experiences aligned with state and national certification standards to address candidates’ career goals.
The graduate plan in Educational Management leads to the master of science degree with principal certification, if principal certification requirements are met. The master’s degree in Educational Management consists of 39 hours of graduate course work. Requirements for the master’s degree are completion of the Professional Education Core (12 hours), the Administration Core (24 hours) and the Capstone Experience/Graduate Internship (3 hours). Students will be eligible to register for Graduate Internship after they have completed at least 27 hours of the master’s degree. Students are reminded that the Graduate Internship is only offered in the fall and spring semesters. An internship application form must be completed and submitted by June 8 for fall semester and October 1 for spring semester in order to enroll in ADSU 6739.
The master’s degree in Educational Management consists of 39-40 hours of graduate course work. Requirements for the master’s degree are completion of the Professional Education Core (12 hours), the Administration Core (24 hours) and the Capstone Experience/Graduate Internship (3 hours). Students have the option of registering for a one-hour (1) course (program overview) to prepare for the state assessment exam. Students will be eligible to register for Graduate Internship after they have completed at least 27 hours of the master’s degree or 18 hours if pursuing only principal certification. Students are reminded that the Graduate Internship is not offered in the summer. An internship registration form must be completed and submitted by June 8 for fall semester and October 1 for spring semester in order to enroll in ADSU 6739.
In order to fulfill principal certification requirements, students must successfully complete the 39-hours of master of science degree course work in educational management. Students must also have a valid Texas Teaching Certificate, two years of successful full-time classroom teaching in an approved accredited school and a passing score on the appropriate Principal State Assessment.
UH-Clear Lake graduates of this program have cited major benefits, such as faculty excellence, state and national accreditations, and high pass rates on the State TExES exam. According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Elementary of School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, more than half the school principals in the United States will be eligible for retirement in a few years leaving the door wide open for graduates of the educational management program.
So that we may provide more convenient locations for our busy students, access to a complete program of course work toward principal certification is now available at San Jacinto College North, UH System Center at Cinco Ranch in Katy, Taylor High School in Alief Independent School District, and Alvin Community College, along with the program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake campus.
