What is STEP?   

The Success Through Education Programs (STEP) is a collaborative partnership between the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL), four area school districts, and four community colleges to create opportunities for students as they explore teaching as a profession.

Do I qualify for STEP?

If you are a current high school, community college, or UHCL student who has attended or is currently attending any of STEP’s partnering schools you may qualify to be a member of STEP. See STEP partners below and check out the links to join the right STEP program!

Who are UHCL’s STEP partners?

( BAER²) The Baytown Area Education Recruitment and Retention program is a joint venture between Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District (Lee and Sterling High School), Lee College, and UHCL.

( GATER²) The Galveston Area Teacher Education Recruitment and Retention program is a 1992 pioneer collaboration connecting Galveston Independent School District (Ball High School) and Galveston College with the university.

The HomeGrown Teacher Program connects Galena Park Independent School District, specifically North Shore and Galena Park High school, along with San Jacinto College North to UHCL.

Pathway to Teaching aligns the Houston Independent School District (Austin High School) with Houston Community College-Southeast and UHCL.

Purpose

UHCL School of Education has established partnerships with four area school districts and community colleges to provide a step-by-step collaborative program. This multi-layered program extends opportunities for diverse first-generation students from low socio-economic backgrounds to become highly qualified, successful teachers for area school districts.
