Fall registration open until Aug. 22

University of Houston-Clear Lake has given residents of the Greater Houston area the opportunity to increase their knowledge through a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for the past three decades. 2008 fall semester registration for new and returning students continues until noon on Aug. 22.

“Mediated Reality” on display in UHCL Art Gallery

“Mediated Reality,” a presentation of work by sculptor Charlie Bevill, is on display in University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Art Gallery through Aug. 22. This new graduate exhibition can be experienced at no charge on Mondays-Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Fridays, 9 a.m. – noon.

Bevill received her bachelor’s degree in applied design and visual arts in 2002 and a master’s in literature in 2005. She continues to work on a master’s in art at UH-Clear Lake. Her work has appeared in many shows including the 2006 Mentor Show at The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake.

Community welcome at Neumann Library

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Alfred R. Neumann Library offers community residents vast resources, including books, journals, newspapers, children’s books, research databases and computers.

Library cards for the Neumann Library are available through Friends of the Neumann Library memberships, which are $35 for individuals, $50 for families and $300 for businesses. Ancient Rome focus of UHCL Art School fall classes

Young artists can discover the art of ancient Rome during University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Art School for Children and Young Adults fall session. Since 1977, the Art School has offered children and teens classes that allow each student to progress at his or her own pace and individual artistic development level.

This fall, classes are available to students ranging in age from 3½ through 12 grade. Course locations include the UHCL Arbor Building, several Clear Creek Independent School District campuses and Lutheran South Academy. Classes begin the week of Sept. 22 and tuition ranges from $80-$125 depending on the specific class, location and child’s age.

Registration can be submitted in person Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., at UH-Clear Lake’s Arbor Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., room 159, Houston. Online registration also is available at http://hsh.uhcl.edu/ASC. For more information, call 281-283-3344.

Learn a second language at UH-Clear Lake

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Foreign Language Program offers those interested in learning a foreign language the perfect opportunity during its fall seven-week language courses. The next session runs from the week of Aug. 25 through Oct. 10. Languages being taught this semester include Spanish, German, Chinese, Russian and Italian.

Each course allows students to develop conversational skills in a total oral method. This method encourages students to think in the language being studied more quickly than traditional methods of language teaching.

The course fee is $135 with discounts available for returning students. Online registration is available at http://www.uhcl.edu/fl. Online training courses begin in August

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Advanced Management Programs will begin three online certificate courses on Aug. 18.

The Legal Nurse Consultant Training Course assists medical professionals interested in a career as a legal nurse consultant. The Online Paralegal Certificate Course focuses on the intricacies of law, including briefs preparation, pleadings, motions and discoveries while the Advanced Paralegal Certificate Course lets paralegals continue studying topics including legal research, victim advocacy, criminal law and family law.

The cost for the Online Paralegal Certificate Course is $1,089 per student, the Advanced Paralegal Certificate Course is $1,650 per student and the Legal Nurse Consultant Training Course fee is $789 per registrant.
