MATH 5232: Number Theory Prerequisite: MATH 4132 or equivalent. An introduction to analytic number theory, which uses the tools of analysis (particularly complex function theory) to investigate questions in number theory. The distribution of the primes is of central interest. Some of the tools developed are Dirichlet series, character theory, formal power series and contour integration. Various topics in arithmetical functions are also considered.
