Writing Center Policies

  1. Regular Writing Center appointments are scheduled for forty-five minutes twice per week. Students who wish to make more than two appointments per week may do so with the approval of the Director.
  2. During busy periods, students who arrive more than ten minutes late may lose their appointment to a walk-in student. Students who arrive more than fifteen minutes late may be asked to reschedule their appointment.
  3. The primary function of the Writing Center is to teach writers. We will work with students on any type of writing task; however, we do not provide editing services.
  4. Students must bring their own papers and be present for the tutoring session. We will NOT work with one student on another's paper.
  5. To ensure productive conferences, students are asked to bring only one project per session.
  6. Only trained tutors are allowed to work in the Writing Center. Peer tutors are not allowed to tutor outside of the Center and cannot take papers to read in advance of a session unless a read-ahead has been scheduled.
  7. Materials and resources may not be removed from the Center.
  8. The computers and printers in the Center are reserved for Writing Center clients.
  9. Please silence all phones and electronic devices while visiting the Center.

All visitors to the Writing Center are expected to treat the staff and other students with respect and consideration. Everyone who follows these policies is welcome.
