Pure Message Spam Filter

All incoming UHCL e-mail messages pass through a mail filtering software called Pure Message. Pure Message filters out e-mail that it considers to have a high probability of being spam. The End User Web Interface (EUWI) lets you further control what e-mail comes to your Inbox.  You may login to the EUWI using your regular network logon.

If you have difficulty logging on to the EUWI, please contact the UCT Support Center  281.283.2828 for assistance.

Quick Reference:

  1. Blocked Messages – lists all e-mail messages that were blocked. From this list, you can choose to deliver a specific message or deliver and approve this message as well as future e-mails from this sender.
  2. Approved Senders – sometimes referred to as your “Whitelist”. Allows you to add a specific e-mail address so that any incoming e-mail from that address will go directly to your Inbox without being scanned and possibly quarantined by Pure Message.
  3. Blocked Senders – sometimes referred to as your “Blacklist”. Add e-mail addresses that you want to go directly to Quarantine instead of to your Inbox.

How Do I Report Spam That Slips Through?

The Pure Message system works well, but automated systems can't account for new forms of Spam or defeat human ingeuity, so there is a mechanism for reporting spam that gets through.  It is important that you follow these steps to ensure the information needed to add new items to the spam filter are preserved.  Please do not use the "Forward" feature in Outlook.

  1. Open a new e-mail message.
  2. Addess it to SpamWatch (this address is availabke in the Outlook Address Book).
  3. Title the e-mail "Spam."
  4. Place your cursor in the body of the e-mail message created in Step 1.
  5. Click on the "Attach Item" button in the Outlook menu bar.  This assumes that you are using Outlook 2007.  If you are using Outlook 2003 the "Attach Item" button is represented by a downward pointing arrowhead located near the Attach File option.
  6. A pop-up window will appear.  The window is a view of your Inbox.  Locate the spam message in the window that you want to send and double click on the message.  The Spam message will be inserted into the New mail message and is represented with an envelope icon.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each message that you want to send.  Multiple Spam message may be included in the new message that you created in Step 1.
  8. Send the message with the Attached Items.
