Mission

The mission of the EC-12 School Library and Information Science Program is threefold:

  1. to produce exemplary graduates who are planning careers in elementary or secondary school libraries,
  2. to provide experiences necessary for our graduates to become leaders in the profession as they assume the responsibilities of teacher, instruction partner, information specialist and program administrator in the school library, and
  3. to provide area schools with outstanding school librarians to meet their needs in a technology-rich society serving a diverse ethnic and socioeconomic population.

This mission statement is based upon the School of Education and University of Houston-Clear Lake Conceptual Framework ( put in appendix) and Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning 's nine information literacy standards designed to guide and support library media specialist's efforts in the tree major areas: learning and teaching, information access, and program administration.
