When you take INST 5131, you will be assigned Web space and will set-up your professional Website during the course. Your Website should consist of two primary directories: a Course directory and a e-portfolio directory. Your course directory should contain a list of all of the courses you take with links to related course assignments. Your e-portfolio directory should consist of exemplary work produced during and outside of class. As you take your coursework, you should store and maintain course related assignments and activities in your Course directory. This will help you keep track of all of your work, as well as enable INST faculty members to easy readily access and review your work.
Student e-portfolios should be hosted on the UHCL server that has been designated for INST graduate student portfolios. All students accepted into the INST master's degree program will be assigned Web space, along with access codes to the server. However, a student may chose to host their e-portfolio on a server provided by their own Internet Service Provider. The requirement is that others must be able to access your e-portfolio using a common Internet browser (i.e., Netscape or Internet Explorer). If a student chooses to put their e- portfolio on a server other than the one provided by the INST program, the INST program can not guarantee backups of the e-portfolio files if something should happen to the server, nor can the Program provide a copy of the e-portfolio on CD after qualifying for graduation. Each student will receive a CD copy of their e-portfolio upon graduation as long as the e-portfolio has been hosted on the designated UHCL server.
The server that is used to store all INST student e-portfolios is backed up every night so if it does crash, the UHCL ITC should be able to reinstall a copy within a couple of days. The INST program faculty and UHCL academic computing staff will be responsible for reinstalling backups. However, it is your responsible to review and make sure that any copies are reinstalled properly. If they are not reinstalled properly, you must contact your faculty advisor who will work with you to identify the appropriate course of action. While all efforts will be made to ensure that you do not lose your work, we do highly recommend that you make and retain backups of all your work samples and e-portfolio items on your own system or storage devices just in case.
After setting up your professional Website, you are ready to begin official coursework toward your master's degree in Instructional Technology. Work samples are authentic products or by-products of your activities that demonstrate your skills, knowledge, attitudes and abilities. They should be presented in a manner that is logical, appealing and easy to understand. The work samples may have resulted from individual or group work, inside or outside of school. They do not have to be restricted to work completed in class or as a direct result from your program of study, but they should demonstrate achievement of both program standards and your professional goals.

As you complete your coursework, you should also continuously review the ACET/ECIT & IBSPTI program standards ( Appendix F) and select appropriate work samples from your Course directory to generate your professional e-portfolio and demonstrate achievement of the program standards.
