Produce an
Electronic Portfolio

Refer to the flowchart in figure 4 for a procedural guideline for producing an electronic portfolio.

In the UHCL SoE INST program, students are expected to produce an electronic-portfolio as part of their master degrees requirements, A electronic portfolio (e-portfolio) is a collection of computer based files organized into a personal web site that is representative of coursework that students produce in the INST program. The e-portfolio is based on assignments and activities completed in and out of class to demonstrate your skills and knowledge related to Instructional Technology. The purposes of the e-portfolio assessment system are to:

The INST program is guided by standards established by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT/ECIT) and the International Board of Standards for Performance, Training and Instruction (IBSPTI) for instructional designers and educational technology programs. Students will meet these standards in their coursework, produce deliverable products based on these standards, and include these product samples in their personal e-portfolios. See AECT/ECIT & IBSPTI Standards for INST Graduate Programs and the associated INST courses that apply to each standard.

The development of your e-portfolio will help you synthesize much of what you have learned, as well as create one cohesive package that demonstrates the skills and knowledge that you bring to the job market. If you are returning to a pre-existing job or choose to stay in your current position, the e-portfolio will serve as a record of what you learned during your course of study.

Enroll in Course - INST 5131 Trends and Issues

Before registering for your first course, you must determine if you have the necessary prerequisite skills to enter the program. You will need to begin developing your on-line portfolio as you take your first course to demonstrate achievement of the INST program standards. So, it is essential that you are able to create a basic Website that includes digital audio, video, text and graphic elements. Review the checklist of INST Program basic computer literacy skills in Section 1.4.2 of this handbook.

INST 5131 Trends and Issues is the course you need to take first that will explain all of the necessary information for the procedures and guidelines on how to set-up your e-portfolio, what course work and non-course work samples to include in your e-portfolio, and how to maintain your website through the assigned UHCL web space. INST 5131 is offered every semester and will also be available in either on campus or on-line DE classes. Refer to the Master Course Schedule for the projected schedule of INST 5131, the on-line Class Schedule from UHCL website at http://prtl.uhcl.edu/admissions/ or the Distance Education website at http://prtl.uhcl.edu/disted for the current semester schedule of INST 5131.
