Interdisciplinary Studies

The UH-Clear Lake Interdisciplinary Studies program gives education majors a strong foundation in the care, development, and education of young children. It emphasizes a developmental approach to teaching and learning.

The program integrates child development with early childhood education and family relations. It explores several. Graduates become effective teachers, qualifying to manage high-quality educational programs. By linking theory to practice, students can quickly establish professional careers.

The Interdisciplinary Studies program helps students develop knowledge and skills in many areas. They enhance their aptitude for teaching methods and instructional strategies, curriculum design and assessment, theories of educational psychology, classroom management and discipline, critical thinking and decision-making skills, and organizational and communication skills.

SOE instructors have exceptional credentials. They bring a wealth of knowledge, practical experience, and academic research into the classroom.

The undergraduate plan in Interdisciplinary Studies leads to the Bachelor of Science (BS). Students pursuing this degree may choose from the following degree plans:

School of Human Sciences and Humanities (HSH)

School of Science and Computer Engineering (SCE)

The SoE Office of Academic Advising staff counsels all students seeking the BS in Interdisciplinary Studies. They guide students concerning initial certification, supplemental certificates, professional certificates, and UHCL certificates. Teacher education students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in other schools must meet with an Academic Advisor to verify that their plan fulfills certification requirements.
