Doctor of Education (EdD)

The Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership prepares graduate students to become leaders in educational organizations. Admissions consideration will primarily focus on individuals having strong background or interest in addressing Early Childhood to 12th grade education, with a preference for applicants holding teacher/principal certificates. Doctoral applications for admission to a new EdD Cohort will be considered as they arrive. For a fall semester cohort start date, March 15th is the last day for accepting completed applications. If March 15th falls on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; then, applications are due by the following Monday.

The Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership prepares its students to become leaders in educational organizations. It builds on high-quality University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) undergraduate and Master's programs in Education. It also builds on the UHCL School of Education’s (SOE) support for local and regional educational organizations as well as its national reputation as a leader in preparing bilingual teachers, counselors, and administrators.

The program gives education professionals advanced preparation in educational leadership. The plan’s benchmarks embrace nationally recognized standards. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) has awarded the SOE its national accreditation.

Multiple instructional practices (especially the case study approach) helps doctoral students understand educational leadership theory and practice. They explore dispute resolution and use advanced research skills to develop, analyze, and evaluate educational programs. They examine a variety of communication techniques which deal with the increasing cultural and linguistic diversity of today’s school population. Doctoral students use interactive educational tools to develop their knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Coursework takes place in an integrated fashion; it emphasizes student-centered learning and higher-order thinking.

Core coursework in leadership, communication, and research, lets each student focus on a specific area, such as curriculumn and instruction, counseling, literacy, and special programs and superintendent certification. The UHCL EdD in Educational Leadership Program features:
