Quality Service Task Force (QSTF)
www.uhcl.edu/youridea
The Quality Service Task Force (QSTF) has been diligently creating a focus/discussion group process to engage the campus community. Since UHCL is YOUR University, let YOUR ideas be heard! Take advantage of the opportunity to share your ideas in the form of a highly engaged group discussion process. It is through the involvement of the UHCL Campus Community that we are striving to gather as many ideas as we can to make UHCL synonymous with being an institution of quality.
Participation Process:
- Review the available sessions at www.uhcl.edu/youridea
- Email youridea@uhcl.edu with your top three (3) group session number (#1, #2, #3, etc.) choices in order of preference. Due to the number of sessions, and in an effort to keep each discussion group balanced, every attempt will be made to match your top choices with available slots. You will receive a confirmation email once you have been scheduled for your session.
- Attend your group session on your scheduled date and participate with an open, solution-based mindset and perspective.
There will be more dates added throughout the semester so please keep checking the website for updates.

14TH Annual UHCL Student Leadership Conference
Saturday, November 6, 2010
Did you know that UHCL is home to one of Texas’ largest campus-based Student Leadership Conferences? For fourteen years, UHCL has hosted more than 3000 college students on our campus and have aided students from around the state in their leadership journey. This one-day leadership conference will be held on our beautiful campus Saturday, November 6, 2010. The day-long experience features a nationally renowned keynote speaker, two interest sessions (students can select from more than 15 workshops to attend), and provides college student leaders an opportunity to network with other emerging leaders like themselves. More than 300 students from around the state attend this conference every year, and every year they rave about what an amazing experience they have because of the students at UHCL. Join us to plan this exciting event. Planning team meetings will be held throughout summer to conceptualize theme, activities, and marketing.

Peer-to-peer mentoring program
Dr. Anthony Jenkins, Dean of Students, is developing a Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program here at the University of Houston – Clear Lake to further the goal of student retention, persistence and success. Dr. Jenkins is seeking interested student leaders who would like to be a part of this very important program as a mentor.
As a Peer Mentor, you will have the opportunity to help carry on the legacy of UHCL as a university whose goal is to guide and empower students towards academic and personal success leading to graduation as well as to pass this legacy on to the next generation of students. read more
Program Goal: Mentors will develop an interpersonal relationship with their Mentee to help the Mentee become academically and socially acclimated to the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Mentors will introduce Mentees to campus resources and student life opportunities. The ultimate goal of the program is to strengthen and sustain students in meeting their educational goals and in helping make the college experience exciting, fun and fulfilling. It has been researched that if first-year students have meaningful interactions with a positive mentor, their motivation and academic performance are significantly increased.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes for Mentors

- To enhance self-esteem
- To share educational, leadership, career and learning goals

HOME is a non-profit organization that sends care packages to the United States Military, serving primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan. This effort is solely supported by monetary and non-monetary donations collected from the general public throughout the year.
How You Can Help:
-
“Adopt a Box” – The primary concern for HOME is having enough funds to send the care packages to our service men and women. Most care packages sent are via United States Postal Service “flat rate” boxes. Groups or individuals are asked to consider adopting a box(s) for shipment. The cost is only $12.45, which includes postage and insurance. Donations may be sent to the mailing address listed below. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if a receipt is desired.
-
Letters/Cards for Soldiers – Every care package from HOME includes cards and letters that show support for our military, but the need is great and we always need more. Just taking a few minutes to write a letter or words of encouragement for a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan will be greatly appreciated and perhaps make their lives a little easier. Cards and letters can do a lot for a lonely soldier. Remember to be “gender-neutral” when writing to the soldiers because you may not know who will be on the receiving end. Send your cards and letters to the HOME mailing address below.
