General Leader Track

Is your organization strapped for cash and needs to explore new ways to raise money? This session will give you new ideas for fundraising as well as provide tips on how to build relationships with potential donors, approach donors, where to find prospective donors and how to work with your university’s development office.
About the Presenter: Kim Herhold is the Senior Coordinator of the Annual Fund at the University of Houston – Clear Lake, and she enjoys working with student organizations and their fundraising efforts. She is a UHCL alumnus, receiving her BS in Healthcare Administration (1997) and her MBA in 2000. While a student at UHCL, Kim was active in various student organizations as well as the Student Government Association’s Executive Council. During her term in SGA, her team was able to raise $5000 to endow a scholarship for student leaders. While away from work, Kim enjoys catching basketball games, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Student Leader Roundtable

No matter what role you play, this workshop is for all student leaders. In this workshop, students will discuss what type of activities they do, do they have a cohesive team, and troubleshooting. While the student leaders discuss, at the same time the students will learn from and help each other. The roundtable is a way to recognize other students from different universities and also a chance to network.
About the Presenters: This roundtable discussion will be facilitated by members of the Atrium Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the premier national leadership honors society, at the University of Houston – Clear Lake.
Advisor Roundtable

If you are an advisor for a student organization or work in student activities/programming for your college campus, this roundtable discussion is an opportunity for you to share your successes and challenges with colleagues from around the state.
About the Facilitators: This roundtable discussion will be facilitated by staff members from the Student Life Office at the University of Houston – Clear Lake, including Assistant Director Andrew Reitberger (Student Government Association advisor), Michelle Kaltenbach (Student Organizations) and Jennifer Clark (Student Leadership and Community Engagement).

About the Presenter: Debbie Wade, CEOP, CEOE, is the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Enrollment Services for San Jacinto College District in Pasadena, Texas, and has been with the college for 28 years. She is a founding member of the San Jacinto College Association of Educational Office Personnel (SJC AEOP) and is a Past President of the Texas Educational Secretaries Association (TESA), now known as the Texas Educational Support Staff Association. She was honored as the 2004 Olive T. Ritchie Educational Office Professional of the Year by the National Educational Office Professionals association, and is also a member of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH). Debbie’s alter egos are “Spunky” the clown and an assortment of friends who make appearances in her fun and interactive workshops which she has conducted for more than 18 years across the nation. She believes people learn more when they are having fun, involved, smiling, and not sitting on the back row!

So often we focus on developing our leadership skills, without realizing we need to also develop our service skills. Being a leader involves learning to serve others effectively. This session will provide information, transferable techniques, and exercises that will assist student leaders in providing quality service through communication, business etiquette, productivity, and follow-up. In this session, students will learn: how to communicate effectively with challenging personalities within an organization; appropriate business etiquette to use in a work environment; inappropriate service attitudes to avoid; and how to provide quality service through productivity and follow-up.
About the Presenters: Kristi Randolph-Simon, Jay B. Smith, and Deanna Clark are Coordinators for the Student Assistance Center (SAC) at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. The SAC staff facilitates workshops and manages the operation of UHCL’s Student Assistance Center, a function of the Dean of Students Office, which provides support services and general information to students, faculty and staff.

Each generation has unique characteristics which comprise their work habits and learning styles. In order to effectively lead the multigenerational workplace, leaders must understand these differences and adapt accordingly. In this workshop, participants should expect to learn and apply effective teaching techniques by understanding and catering to the different learning styles and work habits across the generations
