An Overview
The University of Houston-Clear Lake offers students the opportunity to serve as voting members on various committees and advisory boards that shape the very direction and focus of this institution. The positions are elected by the Student Government Association (SGA) or appointed by the SGA Executive Council or the dean. Through committee service, the student has an opportunity to:
Term of Office for All Committees:
Student representatives to university committees serve a one-year term of office, September to August, with the exception of the two two-year representatives to Student Life Council.
Students must apply for these committee positions, and election by written ballot will be conducted. Should an unexpected vacancy occur in any committee, applications will be accepted and the Student Government Association Executive Council shall make an appointment from among interested candidates to fill the remainder of the term of office.
Task Forces and Ad hoc committees are formed throughout the year, and appointments to fill these additional positions shall be made from among interested candidates.
Who is eligible to apply:
Committee/board positions are open to all UH-Clear Lake students in good academic standing. Student representation on university committees is not limited to those students who participate in student organizations or Student Government Association.
Time Commitment:
The time commitment varies with the workload of the committee during particular times of the year. Some committees only meet once per month, but many meet twice per month. However, the following is an average time commitment per month that one might expect.
Total = 8 1/2 hours per month (approximate)
Applying for committee positions:
Applications are available in the Student Life Office or at various locations throughout campus at the beginning of the Fall semester. The application must be typed or printed neatly and returned to the Student Life Office by the stated deadline.
The number of positions a student may hold is limited. However, you may apply for more than one position. You may use the same form for all applications, or you may submit a separate form for each committee for which you are applying.
