demeke@uhcl.edu Website:
http://sce.uhcl.edu/demeke Damtew Demeke received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and thereafter held an NIH postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University. His research interests include natural products synthesis, asymmetric carbon-carbon bond formation and development of catalytic processes and organometallic methodology for organic synthesis
Dr. Robert C. Hopkins
Robert Hopkins
Professor of Chemistry and Biophysics Office: B3611
Phone: (281) 283-3857
Email:
hopkins@uhcl.edu Website:
http://sce.uhcl.edu/hopkins/ Robert C. Hopkins received his doctorate from Harvard University in physical chemistry. His research focuses on models for the detailed structure of DNA and their implications for binding of other nucleic acids, drugs and proteins. His work involves the use of molecular mechanics/dynamics programs for structure studies, with special interest in DNA flexibility and transcription.
Professor of Chemistry
Program Chair of Chemistry Office: 3531-7
Phone: (281) 283-3780
Email:
lu@uhcl.edu Website:
http://sce.uhcl.edu/lu/ Jack Y. Lu received his doctorate from Northwestern University in Inorganic Chemistry. His research activities are in the area of design and synthesis of new functional metal-organic polymers. For example, one of his research projects concerns rational approaches to new porous open-framework polymers with environmental significance in water purification, molecular separation, and catalysis
Dr. Alexandra MacDermott
Associate Professor Professor of Physical Chemistry Office: B3531
Phone: (281) 2283-3773
Email:
macdermott@uhcl.edu Website:
http://sce.uhcl.edu/macdermott Alexandra MacDermott received her doctorate from Oxford University in Physical Chemistry. Her work is aimed at elucidating the origin of enantiometric bias in nature. To that end a large part of her efforts are currently directed towards ab initio calculations of molecular parity violating effects. She is also pursing research aimed at using chirality as the signature of life in the universe.
Professor of Biology and Chemistry

Phone: (281) 283-3795
Email:
Wang@uhcl.edu Website:
http://sce.uhcl.edu/wang/ Daniel Zerong Wang received his doctorate from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science. His research activity focuses on a) the combinatorial synthesis of carbohydrate-containing molecules with scaffolds of biological functions; b) organic reactions; c) computational chemistry by using ab initio and density function theory to solve some fundamental problems; and d) preparation of carbohydrate-related biopolymers.
Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Environmental Chemistry Office: 3525-9
Phone: (281) 283-3746
Email:
zhang@uhcl.edu Website:
http://sce.uhcl.edu/zhang/ Carl Zhang received his doctorate from Louisiana State University in Environmental Engineering. His research is focused in the areas of fate, transport and kinetic modeling of xenobiotic compounds in water, soil, sediment and biota. He is also pursuing the development of novel physical-chemical and bioremediation technologies for treatment of contaminated wastes and hazard materials.
