Prospective students should follow the following steps to apply for the admission to our graduate program:
Step one
Fill out the online application. The UHCL Office of Admissions will then send you a letter acknowledging your application. The letter includes an admission documentation checklist. It also has your student ID and password for access to UHCL E-Services. E-Services allow you to track your admission status and view an updated checklist.
Send all transcripts of previously attended colleges and test scores to:
Office of Admissions
2700 Bay Area Blvd
UHCL Box 13
University of Houston-Clear Lake
Houston TX 77058-1098
In addition, applicants must submit official General GRE examination (GRE) score (Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing) directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). GMAT is not acceptable as a replacement of GRE. Generally, chemistry’s MS applicants should have a combined GRE score of 1000 or higher for the verbal and quantitative sections and a verbal score of 350. However, the admission committee considers students below these score if they have other outstanding credentials.
Students who have already earned a master's degree in a related field of study from an accredited university in the U.S. may request a waiver of the GRE requirement by writing a petition to the Associate Dean.
International students should also submit official TOEFL scores (minimum score is 213) computer test and other required documents. Contact an International Student Advisor of the international student services for details. A waiver of the TOEFL requirement will be considered for applicants who hold at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher education.
Students intended to submit optional "Letters of Intent", "Letters of Recommendation" or other similar documents to be reviewed by the Chemistry Admission Committee should send them directly to:

Step Two
The Advising Office will further review your transcripts for transferable hours, GPA, core curriculum, and program foundation courses completed, and prepare the application package for the admission review.
Step Three
The Office of Admissions reviews and evaluates your application package. This process usually takes one month after you complete your application documents.
Students may use E-Services or contact the UHCL Office of Admissions (call 281-283-2500 or
uhcl_applicants@uhcl.edu) or SCE Advising Office (call 281- 283-3711 or
sceadvising@uhcl.edu) to track their application status. The Office of Admissions does not notify applicants when the application file is completed, so it is important for you to verify that your application files are complete.
