Chemistry Program
Bachelor of Science - Senior Project
The Senior Project course (Chem 4939) is the capstone course for an undergraduate student in the Chemistry Program who seeks a degree in Bachelor of Science. Students participating in this course will work on realistic projects that apply the chemistry knowledges and laboratory skills learned from various courses. Faculty members usually sponsor and mentor the projects.
To enroll in this course, students must complete most required courses within six hours of graduation. The course is controlled so permission from the department will be required. Students can contact the interested instructor before the semester begins for information about the course and available projects, and fill out the controlled course form and return it to Ms. Maria Winters (281-283-3770).
The senior project course:
- Gives students a practical experience in solving a real-world problem
- Helps students to develop and use proper design methodologies and existing tools
- Allows students to examine professional ethics and globalization as they relate specifically to chemistry professions
- Strengthens students’ verbal and writing skills by emphasizing formal and informal presentations and reports
- Offers students a foundation in project management
As the capstone requirement for the chemistry program, the senior project is more demanding than the average chemistry courses; however, it gives students an invaluable experience before they enter the professional careers.
