Mathematical Sciences B.S.

Program Descriptions
The bachelor of science in mathematical science is designed to prepare the student for a career in industry or education, or for graduate study in mathematics, statistics, operations research or other mathematically based disciplines. Students will encounter both the classical foundations of mathematics and the modern concern with numerical issues that the computer has spawned.

Career Opportunities
Many students pursue studies in mathematics out of love for the subject, but with only vague ideas of the opportunities after graduation, other than in education. Careers that require a very strong background in mathematics include software engineer, actuary, computer systems analyst, computer programmer and mathematician. Because women and minorities are under-represented in careers that require backgrounds in the mathematical sciences, many employers are especially eager to rectify those imbalances.
