Computer Science Program
International Students
The Computer Science program has a large body of international students, especially at the graduate level. Both the university and the program prize the value of diversity. UHCL diligently cultivated diversity in its student body. The Computer Science faculty body is itself very diverse.
In the past, Computer Science has partnered with universities in other countries such as Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems graduate programs collaborate with Vietnam National University (VNU) to enable its graduates to pursue the Master of Science. Under the partnership, VNU offers transitional courses to prepare its graduates (as well as graduates of the Vietnam campus of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) to enter our CS and CIS programs.
The Indian Student Association organizes many activities during the year. An example is the Holi Festival, such as this one in 2005
UHCL has students from nearly 50 countries. The UHCL is part of the cosmopolitan greater Houston area. Houston hosts more than 80 consulates. The city, with its diverse culture and ethnicity, offers its residents and visitors a unique opportunity to evolve toward world citizenship. It is easy to find food, communities, and cultural activities from around the world. The Vietnamese, Indian, and Chinese communities in Houston are especially large.
UHCL supports many student organizations. The
Indian Student Association at UHCL is especially active. It offers assistance beneficial to incoming Indian students.
International students interested in our programs may visit the Website of the UHCL
International Student Services for information. The Intercultural Services provide "leadership, advocacy and support which facilitates the development of successful, well-rounded, educated, and accepting individuals." International students may also contact
Career Services regarding employment service and career preparation. UHCL also hosts the
writing center for peer tutoring in writing projects.
