UH-Clear Lake Autism Center launches new speaker series
In their efforts to assist more local families, caregivers and teachers of autistic children, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities will launch a new speaker series in January 2010. The informative lectures will be provided by the center at no cost. Scheduled speakers are graduate students of the university’s Behavior Analysis program. A question and answer session and complimentary lunch will follow each lecture. More

New bachelor’s degree offered for early childhood professionals
Responding to projected growth and upcoming federal requirements for the early childhood education profession, University of Houston-Clear Lake introduced a new Bachelor of Applied Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. The new degree has three tracks in early childhood education: educator of young children, young children with disabilities and early childhood program leadership.

The non-certification degree program emphasizes teaching young children from birth through 5 years old and is designed for Head Start, preschool and child care teachers and directors who already hold an associate degree in child development or previous college credit in the field. More

Prof shares art expertise with Serbian students As an internationally known artist, University of Houston-Clear Lake Professor of Fine Arts Sandria Hu has traveled the world. So have her art and her expertise. Most recently the artist, who began teaching at UH-Clear Lake in 1975, served as artist-in-residence as a Fulbright senior specialist in Serbia. More

Egret fall 2009: Bound and Determined
The number 50,000. UHCL alumni will exceed 50,000 during 2009-2010. Just a little bit bigger than Texas City, but smaller than Galveston, the university’s alumni population represents 50,000 lives that have intersected, and changed each other through the legacy every student leaves behind. Each person is bound by a common desire to make a difference in his or her life and the lives of others.
