President's Message
University of Houston-Clear Lake belongs to you. Students, alumni, faculty, staff, administrators, donors, volunteers and university friends have created this university through a shared passion for education. The result is an institution that both meets the changing needs of our community members and, through the work of its constituents, impacts the larger region.
More than 45,000 students have earned degrees from UHCL since the university first opened its doors in 1974 and have used their degrees to claim success in their professional and personal lives. During 2007, UHCL expanded its academic offerings to meet real-world needs in the fields of digital media studies and engineering management. UHCL welcomed its first group of doctoral students to its educational leadership program and established a partnership with University of Houston to provide opportunities for physics students to transition from master’s to doctoral studies. Distance education and off-campus programs continue to offer many choices. Most notably, preliminary planning is under way to open a UHCL branch campus in Pearland, Texas.
Because the vitality of any region depends on the level of education achieved by its people, UHCL seeks to increase the educational options for individuals living and working in the Houston-Galveston area. The university also strives to provide innovative solutions to major challenges facing our area’s economic development and quality of life. Among those are the high cost of advanced education and low rate of college graduation.
By supporting UHCL, you have taken an active role in developing the future of our region. Your contributions are life-changing investments for students, faculty and this community. Endowments for scholarships, fellowships, professorships and academic programs have helped make the university what it is today. Looking ahead, your steadfast commitment to education will be integral to the future of a community-minded, partnership-oriented institution like UHCL.
