1. Keep your parked vehicle locked with the windows rolled up tightly.

2. Never leave the vehicle running or extra keys in the vehicle.

3. Park in well-lighted areas and never assume security lights stay on all night.

4. Park your vehicle with the front wheels turned toward the curb, or if you are in a parking lot, turn the front wheels sharply right or left to impede towing.

5. Give only the ignition key to the parking lot attendant. Do not discuss what time you will be returning for your vehicle.

6. Lock all purchases, purses, and valuables in the trunk of the car.

7. Check your license plates on a regular basis to see if they have been swapped or if the current license sticker has been removed.

8. Never leave registration and vehicle title in the glove box or where it is visible.

9. If vehicle keys are lost or misplaced for a period of time, rekey the vehicle.

10. Consider engraving the VIN number on all vehicle glass and inside expensive hubcaps.

11. Consider installing an ignition kill-switch system.

12. Consider installing an audible alarm system.
