Summer Institute
Each summer the Greater Houston Area Writing Project (GHAWP) awards Fellowships to exemplary teachers in the Houston area. Four week Summer Invitational Institutes include teachers from all content areas. In the Summer Invitational Institutes teachers meet to discuss and improve their own writing, learn methods to increase teaching effectiveness, and develop leadership skills through demonstration lessons.
The Institutes are held for four weeks (Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
Participants receive 6 hours of graduate credit and the National Writing Project covers 50% of the tuition.
Participants complete a Summer Invitational Institute application, interview with the GHAWP director, and complete an application for admission to the University of Houston – Clear Lake. In addition to the application for admission to the University participants must send an original transcript from the University where they received their BA or BS degree. Address: Office of Admissions, UHCL, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, TX 77058-1098.
