Applied Cognitive Psychology Sub-Plan
Applied Cognitive Psychology (ACP) trains people to apply principles and methods associated with Cognitive Psychology to the Human-Machine Interface. This can improve the usability and effectiveness of machines for humans. Some common terms that refer to this profession are:
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Human Factors
- Ergonomics
- User Experience Design
The keystone of the application of ACP is User Centered Design, which insures that the requirements of the user of the technology are integrated into the design and construction of the technology. Professionals trained in ACP work in industries such as:
- Aerospace
- Computing
- Software design
- Petrochemical
- Medical
- Military
The proliferation of technology has generated an increased demand for professionals with knowledge of the process and methods associated with the User Centered Design Process.
