The University of Houston-Clear Lake publishes Bayousphere twice a year to provide a creative outlet for its students and the community. Students enrolled in COMM 4536 – Magazine Publication produce the literary art magazine as part of the course curriculum. Bayousphere accepts submissions in the areas of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, art, photography and multimedia:
- Poetry – must be typed. Submit work on disk along with a hard copy.
- Fiction and Nonfiction – must be typed, double spaced, and no longer than 2,000 words. Submit work on disk along with a hard copy. Include word count.
- Photographs – must be black and white, no smaller than 5 x 7 inches, no larger than 11 x 14 inches. Submit on high-resolution photography paper and saved on disc at 350 dpi.
- Sculpture and other three-dimensional artwork – must be photographed in black and white to be considered. (see guidelines for photographs)
- Original artwork – must be suitable for black and white publication. Pastels, water colors and light pencil drawings do not reproduce well. Artwork must not exceed 11 x 16 inches. No framed work.
- Multimedia – consists of computer animated, i.e. moving, images that can include any of the following forms of digital media: Flash, Macromedia Director, Digital Video, 3D Animation, and Quick Time virtual Reality. Submissions must be five minutes or less. Entries may be submitted on a CD or Zip Disk. Submissions chosen from this category will not be able to appear in the print version of Bayousphere, but will be featured on the online version.

Roger Roberts, assistant editor for The Signal, meets guest speaker Kinky Friedman at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Awards. Friedman is a songwriter, novelist and former gubernatorial candidate for the state of Texas.
