What is Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

Industrial/Organizational Psychologists apply the principles of behavioral science to understanding and solving problems people encounter at work. I/O psychologists work to build better organizations. They work with a variety of issues from employee selection, training and development to leadership, performance, and organizational development. I/O psychologists also work in a variety of industries, organizations, and public sector. See more information at http://www.siop.org/visibilitybrochure/memberbrochure.htm

Program Objectives

The objectives of the Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology sub-plan at UCHL are to offer a two-year terminal degree that prepares students to contribute to an organization’s success by improving the performance and well-being of its people. The program will provide students with a balance of the industrial and organizational areas of I/O psychology. Students will learn about individual differences, their assessment and evaluation as well as organizational theories and interventions. The program follows that scientist/practitioner model providing students with knowledge of psychological theories and principles and how those principles apply to problem solving in organizations.
