The Mentoring of CBAT Participants
A major goal of the CBAT Project is to provide mentoring and support for CBAT participants throughout this period of graduate study at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Practicing administrators from collaborating districts are recruited to serve in this important role as CBAT mentors. General qualifications for mentors include:
- Mentors should be certified administrators with three years of experience.
- Mentors must demonstrate a strong commitment to their own continued professional development.
- Mentors will regularly engage CBAT participants in campus activities that enrich their understanding of information presented in university courses.
- Mentors must be willing to foster collaboration between campus and dist5rict staff throughout the mentoring relationship so that CBAT participants gain a practical understanding of district policies and programs from both perspectives.
To support the mentoring process for CBAT participants, the University of Houston will provide the following:
- Training for CBAT mentors at the beginning of the mentoring relationship in the use of best practice approaches for supporting adult professionals in the context of this developmental relationship
- Annual professional development opportunities for CBAT mentors related to issues relevant to the implementation of school programs resulting in student improved student learning
- An annual stipend of $500 for the support provided to CBAT participants and in recognition of their participation in CBAT-sponsored activities
