Professional Internship

As part of the CBAT program, an extended internship is provided that offers participants the opportunity to observe, participate, or lead in activities and projects that connect to the myriad of tasks principals must accomplish in the course of an entire school year. CBAT participants may accumulate up to 40 hours during the fall 2006 semester of the total 140 hours required by the internship. The remaining hours will be completed as part of the course, ADSU 6739: Graduate Internship, during the spring 2007 semester.
The chart entitled CBAT Graduate Internship in Educational Leadership presents options for internship activities and projects for CBAT mentors and mentees related to the ELCC standards. The TExES exam, required for principal certification in Texas, is also based on ELCC standards. Options shown as required were identified as priority experiences from the surveys of CBAT mentors and CBAT field service representatives. While these options are believed to be essential to the success of school principals and assistant principals because of their connection to the school accountability process, other experiences are also recommended to encourage CBAT participants to develop interpersonal and consensus-building skills that will enable them to lead successful collaborations of staff, students and community directed toward the attainment of the school’s vision.
Brenda Dykes and Barbara Wilson, CBAT Field Service Representatives, will be available for campus visits and conferences calls with mentors and mentees to support the mentoring process in any possible way. CBAT mentors play an essential role in the preparation of CBAT participants for future leadership roles.
