International Undergraduate Admission Procedures

Apply

Apply online or submit an admission application by mail.

Pay

Undergraduate international students are required to pay the non-refundable application fee of $75 USD. The fee should be paid online or by check. Checks should be made payable to University of Houston-Clear Lake and submitted with your admission application.

Submit transcripts

Degree-seeking students should submit official transcripts from every college or university attended to the UHCL Office of Admissions. An official transcript is one issued and sent directly to the university by the registrar, principal or responsible head of each school. If this is not possible, transcripts certified by an embassy or consular official as “true copies” are acceptable. Uncertified or student copies are not accepted.

You should provide two copies of each transcript; one in the original language and one translated in English. If your institution does not provide a copy in English, please use an approved accredited service that is recognized as a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Transcripts must clearly state dates of attendance, when the studies were completed, subjects studied, grades or marks for each course and degrees earned. Course syllabi certified by the institution are strongly recommended.

Submit test scores

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) must be met prior to admission for all undergraduate students. This requirement can be met in various ways including passing all three sections of the Texas Higher Education Assessment/Texas Academic Skills Program (THEA/TASP) exam or successfully applying for an exemption.

All students, regardless of immigration status who are citizens of countries where English is not the native language must demonstrate English proficiency by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) prior to admission. A score of 550 on the paper exam of the TOEFL is required with section scores of at least 50. A score of 213 is required on computer-based TOEFL scores. A minimum score of 6.0 is required on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and 79-80 on the ibt TOEFL. Scores cannot be more than two years old. Only scores sent from the testing center will be accepted. The testing code for UHCL is 6916. UHCL’s Web site and catalog lists possible ways to qualify for a TOEFL waiver.

Sponsor’s affidavit

All F and some J visa holders, are required to have adequate financial sponsorship while attending UHCL. You must submit the UHCL Sponsor’s Affidavit form and financial statement from your sponsor’s bank.

Student Statement of Understanding

A Student Statement of Understanding form must be signed and submitted as proof that you have read and understand all UHCL admission requirements. This form also identifies your visa status as well as any dependents you may need to include on your I-20 or DS-2019.
