Q: Do I have to retake a course if get a “D”?
A: If you are admitted with an associate’s degree, you do not have to retake the course. If you were admitted without having an associate’s degree, you must complete Composition I, Composition II or Technical Writing with a grade of C- or better. Undergraduate School of Education majors must receive a C or higher in the required mathematics course.
Q: Do all of my freshman/sophmore courses have to be completed prior to being admitted to UHCL?
A: No. All of your freshman and sophomore classes do not have to be completed prior to admission. It is important to remember that we are an upper level university and do not offer freshman and sophomore level courses. Therefore, if you do have lower level classes to complete when you are admitted to UHCL you will have to complete them at a community college or take a substitute course at UHCL to meet the requirement. Please see the 2+2 plan for which courses may be substituted with an upper level course at UHCL.
Q: How can I find out if my courses will transfer?
A: Bring an official copy of your transcript to the Admissions office and meet with a Transfer Advisor or Enrollment Management Counselor. For courses taken out of state, at private institutions or more than 10 years ago we suggest that you bring catalogs and/or course syllabi to ensure a good evaluation.
Q: What is Unilink and how will it benefit me?
A: Unilink is a program for students who have completed less than 30 hours. This program give you access to many of UHCL’s great services while you are still enrolled at the community college and guarantees admission using the requirements that were in place at the time you joined the program. We will assign you an advisor, give you a UHCL ID, provide opportunities to join student organizations and not assess you an admission application fee. All of this prior to admission to UHCL!
Q: How do I find out which classes I will need to complete my degree?
A: Transfer plans are available online and can be printed for your convenience. You can meet with an Academic Transfer Advisor who will provide you will a 2+2 plan and discuss the required courses. Once you are admitted an Academic Advisor from the department of your major will develop a Candidate Plan of Study (degree plan).
Q: Will all of my upper level classes transfer?
A: All undergraduates are required to successfully complete at least 30 hours at UHCL and at least 12 hours of the major in residence.
Q: Will courses I took more than 7 years ago be used towards my degree?
A: Undergraduate freshman and sophomore level courses will transfer regardless of its age. Junior and senior level courses 7 years old or older will not transfer. Please note, upper level courses 7 years old or older will be used in calculating the 54 hours that may be needed for admission.
Q: Do you accept CLEP credit?
