Psychology Undergraduate - Admissions & Advising

Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate students seeking a degree in Psychology should:

  1. Go to the Office of Admissions to apply to the University (before being admitted to the psychology program)
    • Note: The undergraduate psychology program is not competitive. Students whose lower level hours are complete and who meet all university admission requirements can be admitted.

  2. Once you are admitted to UHCL, you will declare your major as Psychology.

  3. After you are designated as a Psychology major, the Advising office (for Human Sciences and Humanities) will assign you to a faculty advisor.
    • Your faculty advisor will review your curriculum plan of study with you and can provide information about course selection and career planning.

Undergraduate Advising

The undergraduate programs in the Behavioral Sciences allow students to combine courses in anthropology, psychology, and sociology according to their interests and goals.  The philosophy behind this interdisciplinary approach is the recognition that human behavior is too complex to be fully covered by one academic discipline.

Student Preparation:

Although no specific courses are required for admission to the program, introductory courses in psychology, sociology, and anthropology are strongly recommended.  The best preparation for study in Behavioral Sciences at the University of Houston-Clear Lake is a broad exposure to the sciences and liberal arts.  At a minimum this should include courses in the humanities, mathematics, physical sciences (especially biology), and the fine arts.

Admission to Behavioral Sciences Program:

Students wishing to enroll in the University must complete an Application for Admission and forward it to the University Office of Admissions.  Prior to admission, degree-seeking applicants must also furnish the Office of Admissions complete official transcripts of ALL collegiate institutions attended.  Students must have the transcripts mailed directly from each former institution to the Office of Admissions.  Hand carried copies will NOT be accepted. Application/documentation deadlines are: August 1 for the Fall semester, December 1 for the Spring semester, and May 1 for the Summer sessions.  Students cannot be accepted into a degree granting program until the University application process is complete.  All correspondence regarding enrollment in the University should be addressed to:  Office of Admissions, University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, TX  77058-1098.

Assignment of an Advisor:

Upon admission, copies of the student's completed application and transcripts are forwarded by the Office of Admissions to the Advising Office.  Upon receipt of these materials, the student is assigned a faculty advisor.  The student's file must be completed before an advisor can be assigned.
