Leslye Mize, Ph.D., University of Houston-Clear Lake
Individual Systemic Therapies such as
Emotionally-Focused Therapy and Relational Cultural Therapy:
Beginner’s Guide and Current Trends
This address will focus on current trends in individual systemic therapies such as using Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Relational Cultural Therapy (RCT). What are individual systemic therapies anyway and how can we utilize them effectively in a clinical setting? Both theoretical positions bring an exciting and important type of thinking to therapy that can add to practitioners connection with clients. As therapists, how can we better learn to facilitate the process? With some help from some researchers and practitioners in the systemic therapy field, Leslye Mize will describe some of the more positive aspects of these cutting edge approaches to therapy.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will learn what is systemic therapy in general and how this thinking can be helpful to beginning and advanced practitioners.
- Participants will learn about EFT and how it can be used on an individual level with clients to bring emotion and patterns of interaction to their awareness.
- Participants will learn about the work of RCT and how this powerful therapy can bring the power of the healing relationship between therapist and client to the forefront of therapy.
